what is the midpoint equation

May 27th, 2015

The midpoint is established by adding the corresponding coordinates of two given points and dividing each sum by two to obtain the mid-coordinate. Take for example the following two points:

A( 4,6)       B(2,8)

To find the midpoint, this is how you do it:

Add the x-coordinates first and divide by 2...........(4+2)/2=3

Then add the y-coordinates and divide the result by 2.........(6+8)/2=7

The midpoint is therefore   (3,7)
