why do cohesion and adhesion in water occur?

May 27th, 2015

cohesion forces in water is due to the attraction of hydrogen and the oxygen. the hydrogen atoms have positive charge while the oxygen have negative charge. a water molecule has 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom, the oxygen atom attracts 2 hydrogen atoms. the hydrogen atoms are respocsible for attracting other molecules hence cohesion force in water

Adhesion force; water has a strong adhesive force than cohesive force, it occurs when the surface atom (oxygen) form hydrogen bonds hence the oxygen atoms are attracted to the waals of an object forming d bond.
