During 2005-2006 school year the ratio of public school students to a private school students in the united states was approximately 7.6 to 1.The students attending public school outnumbered those attending private schools by 42,240,000.
a)Write a rational expression to express the ratio of public school students to x private school students.
7.6x/(x+7.6x) the top is 7.6 kids times the nuimber of kids that attend private schools as if 2 people attend private then 15.2 attend public, while the bottom represent the total number of kids and the difference between the bottom and top is the number that attend private
if 42240000 outnumbered those attending private schools then we need to find when 7.6x is 42240000 than x
so we do 7.6x=42240000+x solve for x and we get 6,400,000 that attended private schools and we multiply that by 7.6 to get 48,640,000 attended puiblic schools and the difference is 42,240,000
