let d be the width of the deck, then the radius is 13+d

area of the deck is given by,

deck area = (total circular area) – (pool area)

A=pi(13+d)^2-169pi

A=pi(169+26d+d^2)-169pi

A=169pi+26d(pi)+d^2(pi)-169pi

A=26d(pi)+d^2(pi)

A=60 pi

(d^2+26d-60)=0

d=-28.133 or 2.133

hence d=2 feet to the nearest whole number
