In this kind of problems you need to use the formula C1V1=C2V2

Where 

C1=initial concentration= 2.0 M

V1=Initial volume= 0.5L

C2 = final concentration = ?????

V= final volume = 1.0 L

Now we need to solve the equation C1V1=C2V2 for C2

this is:

C2=C1V1/V2

C2= (2.0M)*(0.5L)/(1.0L)= 1.0 M

The final concentration of the solution is 1.0 M
