Article: Case Study: Honda Canada (A): Tsunami and Communications by R. Chandrasekhar Ivey Publishing, Case W16152 2016This case study will serve as the basis for this group discussion. The case is designed to place students in the role of an operational decision maker in the presence of a major supply chain disruption in a global supply chain with multiple supplier tiers. The impact of international culture, the multitude of stakeholders, and the importance of effective communications are addressed. In your initial discussion post, provide insight that will add value to the topics addressed in the case. Rather than focus on post-disaster issues and challenges, you are asked to take more of a “lessons learned” approach to help Honda’s supply chain managers better prepare for potential supply chain disruptions. In particular, what did Honda’s supply chain managers do right and what did they do wrong prior to the 2011 tsunami? Be sure to address the global dispersion of their supply chain and its cultural diversity, as well as relevant costs and other factors that play a role. You should provide justification for your arguments by detailing your experiences or those that have been recently published (e.g., peer reviewed articles, magazine stories, or newspaper accounts). You are required to create one post (using 250-350 words) and respond to the post of one other student (using 100-200 words). Doing workplace research requires different types of research that go beyond simply querying a library database or using Google.  Often, you will need to speak directly to local populations and target audiences and directly contact resources and experts in different professions and in the community.  Clearly, you will likely need information in addition to, or instead of, scholarly resources.  Local and national journalism (news articles) may add context and perspective to your topic or research problem.  Professional experts, government agencies, and state and local authorities all may be relevant sources, as are individuals in local or target populations.  Essentially, research in the workplace requires you to think critically and creatively about: The type of information you need; and  The best way to get that information.
