Suppose your automobile engine produces 1000 units of energy as your drive from point A to point B.  Let’s also suppose that the automobile performs 400 units of work between the tires and the road in moving that distance.  Why do we call the other 600 units of energy ‘lost’?  What happens to it?  Is it truly ‘lost’?

Explanation & Answer

600 units is not used, thats why we use the word 'lost'
