Writing

Description

This is a second post based on my first work. I already post my first post in the attached file, and based on that research topic and my professor's comment, need to write some details on the same this topic (attached in file).

Writing instruction: Total word count: 350

Your second post should report the findings of any further research you have conducted: things you have learned that you didn’t know the first time you posted; answers to questions that you or one of your fellow group members might have had; further examination of one of one of the controversies that you identified in your initial research. This is the time to go into as much depth and detail on a specific issue as you can.

In this essay, need to focus on one specific topic from the list below:

Some issues that you might consider:

-examination of units and/or individuals (usually commanders) involved in the battle/campaign; specific role of a given unit or commander

-strategic aim or purpose of the battle/campaign; place of the battle/campaign within broader strategy of the war

-cooperation and/or tension among allies

-operational planning; training and preparation

-operations, which might include unforeseen eventualities that shaped the campaign/battle (weather, geography, lack of roads, etc.), as well as possible “what ifs” or missed opportunities

-role of different branches (air, sea, land; armor, infantry, artillery, etc.) and cooperation or lack thereof

-within a broader campaign, specific battles or combat operations

-role of logistics

-role of intelligence

-role of technology

-role of decision-making and leadership

-historiographical controversies: issues about which there is major disagreement among (well-informed) historians.

Topic: World War II Battles and Campaign: Tunisia Campaign (Nov. 1942-May 1943) The Tunisia Campaign is considered to have been the final stage of the North African Campaign. It was considered as the battle between the Axis and the Allied Forces. The Allies were composed of the British Imperial forces, French and American corps. On the other hand, the Axis were composed of the Italian and German forces. The Tunisia Campaign began with a major success for the Italian and German forces through the major engagement between Axis and the American forces. Consequently, the American troops were subjected to many casualties. The early defeat subjected the poorly managed American troops to be pushed back more than 50 miles away from their positions. They then rallied and with the British reinforcements which enabled them to defeat the Axis offensive (Rickard 1). The interdiction efforts led to the defeat of the Axis. Evidently, the Allies troops were more than those of the Axis and had more amour which gave them an advantage. The Allies made significant advancements which enabled them to force the Axis troops towards the Tunisian Coast. The British troops were successful in capturing the capital of Tunisia on 7th May 1943. On the other hand, the US troops captured Bizerte which was the last remaining territory under the Axis power. The Axis forces sustained more than 40,000 casualties in Tunisia. During this time, more than 200,000 Italian and German troops were taken as prisoners (Rickard 1). The Allied victory in North Africa is credited for destroying and neutralizing the Axis troops. Additionally, it led to a major front in opposition to the Axis where the attack of the Italian mainland and Sicily in 1943 were achieved leading to the elimination of their threat to the British supply lines to Africa and Asia and the oilfields of the Middle East (Rickard 1). Evidently, this was a crucial achievement in the course of World War II. Is there anything that particularly interests you?
