Cuprous Halide Complexes of a Variable Length Ligand: Helices, Cluster Chains, and Nets
Containing Large Solvated Channels
Abstract
The b3pmdc got reacted with the cuprous iodide to produce ranges of new polymeric and
discrete coordination compounds (Gee and Batten, 2013). Six structurally different CuI
(b3pmdc) structures got isolated together with the one oxidized species of CuII(b3pmdc). The
structures incorporate [H4b3pmdc][Cu10I14]·CHCl3·2H2O, [Cu4I6(H2b3pmdc)],
[Cu4I4(Hb3pmdc)2](1.5ClO4)- (0.5I3)·3.5H2O·2.5MeOH, [Cu4I4(b3pmdc)2],
[Cu9I12(Kb3pmdc)3(H2O)4]·9MeOH, [Cu2Cl3.4I2.6(H4b3pmdc)] (6) and
[CuCl2(H2b3pmdc)(MeOH)2]·2Cl·2MeCN. The exploitation of the ligand conformation
becomes achieved by adding the alkali metal salt such as the potassium as well as by varying the
solution pH with acid ranges of HCl and HClO4. For the photoluminescence properties,
[Cu4I6(H2b3pmdc)] and [Cu4I4(b3pmdc)2] emitted the green and yellow lights respectively due
to the different metal environments. This paper thus seeks to relate the crystalline solid state
under the inorganic chemistry.
