    Locations and Actions of Major and Minor Muscles Used in Breathing
    The muscles of breathing also known as the respiration muscles and they are a complex
    arrangement that forms a semi-grid around lungs bellows, there are those that are attached to the
    rib cage, and they help in the process of breathing. The muscles that expand the chest assist in
    inhalation while those that contract the chest assist in respiration. The breathing muscles have the
    same basic structure just like all the skeletal muscles, and both the inspiratory and expiratory
    muscles are classified into major and minor muscles.
    Major Muscles
    The major muscles for the inhalation are the diaphragm and the internal intercostal
    muscles while for the exhalation process the primary muscles are the internal intercostal, and the
    subcostals. The primary muscles for inhalation will cause the sternum and the rib cage to rise as
    you inhale while the primary muscles for exhalation will depress the cage and the sternum while
    breathing out.
    The diaphragm is a doom shaped muscular membrane structure that is located between
    the chest and the abdominal cavities in mammals, and it is the primary muscle used in the
