Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

1/(x+1)+4=17/(x+1)  where x is not equal to -1  (That's the restriction)

Now to solve, we multiply everything by x+1 to eliminate the denominators

1 + 4(x+1) = 17

1 + 4x + 4 = 17

4x = 12

x = 3

so, the solution set is {3}

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.

restrction? and should solution set have 2 answers?

The restriction is x not equal to -1

There is only one solution.  If this were a quadratic equation then there would be 2 solutions.
