Question description

BCJ 2201 unit III

I have to comment on my classmates discussion board question this is what he wrote:

The cycle of violence is when an offenders keep repeating crimes over and over. It is very important to study this behavior in order to determine rather if the offender is a career criminal or was their first time a mistake. Also, to determine the root of the reason why an individual is committing crimes repeatable In many cases, an offender, can be an offender that keeps repeating the same crime because it is something that they grew up seeing, a act of revenge.

BCJ 2201 UNIT IV board question

Currently, the juvenile justice system is based on treatment rather than punishment. How does this affect the role of the probation officer?

BCJ 2501 Unit III

My classmate wrote this and I have to comment on it:

I agree with this theory very much. Based on my experience interacting with those in my life I see such a similarity between what is modeled and how someone behaves based on what they have observed.

Personally my family is by easiest example. I am one of 6 children and we all had our parents to model our lives after yet we each took some different approaches based on what we observed. My older brother looked at the financial prowess of my parents or lack thereof and decided that would never be him so he became focused on learning how to manage money very well. He now manages a hedgefund and is very successful at it. My youngest brother saw the example of how our parents loved each of us and while he may not be finacially on the most stable footing his family is full of love and caring to a high degree.

So I believe we are all impacted greatly by the observations we have in our lives but whether we choose to mimic the behavior or use it as a guide of what NOT to do is based on the sum of our personality grown through our life experiences.

BCJ 2501 Unit IV

Theories of social structure imply that economic status and economic conditions cause people to commit crime. How does economic deprivation lead to crime? Is it inevitable that someone who is economically disadvantaged will eventually turn to crime? Do you feel this is an acceptable theory of criminal behavior?

BCJ 2201 Unit III

I agree with my classmate's post that the cycle of violence occurs when offenses or
crimes are repeated over and over. For example, through a generation or repeated crimes in a
family over a long period. The cycle of violence is mostly learned, for example, when one was,
and they grew committing the crimes repeatedly. It may result due to the urge for revenge or
because of constant abuse. I agree with my classmate that it is vital to study this behavior to
determine if the offender is a career criminal or if they have committed the crime for the first
time. It will also help to know and understand the root cause of the repeated offenses (Littman &
Paluck, 2015). It also helps the crime investigators to be able to eliminate the future occurrence
of the crimes by solving the crime from the root cause, for instance, addiction to hard drugs.
BCJ 2201 Unit IV Board Question
Currently, the Juvenile System has been concentrating on treatment rather than punishing
the minor offenders. The significant roles of the probation officer are to act as intermediaries
between the justice system and the juvenile offenders. The role of the probation officer will be
positively affected since they will be a greater focus on their duties. Probation officers aim to
resolve the cause of crime between the offenders and their families or their communities. This
means that they will now be targeting more of finding solutions of curbing future crime
occurrence rather than punishing the juveniles. They will also add more activities to their duties
such as taking part in regular training programs for the young and juvenile offenders to help
them rectify their behaviors. They will also team up with the juvenile surveillance officers to
monitor and supervise the juvenile offenders to ascertain that they have changed or improved
from their delinquent behaviors. They will also need to create a design effective rehabilitation

plans as well as motivating the juveniles into living better lives. This means that their entire roles
will major on changing the behaviors rather than punishing the minors.
