Running head/the promised land

Running head/the promised land

‘The promised land’ is a story by Micheal Boylan where the writer has presented his book which
has led to it into the contemporary world. According to the book every student leaving the
protected grounds of school wonders: must I now throw away my ideas, or can they guide me
through the rough-and-tumble city? The philosopher Socrates’s descent into the blood sports of
business and politics was called “katabasis.” But for the old college friends Moses and Peter, it is
betrayal and murder found in Michael Boylan’s fast-paced and gripping novel. Michael
demonstrates that at first the father to Miriam was a very caring father. He loved and cherished
his daughter. It is ethically correct for Moses to be a caring father. This is demonstrated by how
Moses used to wake up very early at around 5:15 am and go out and get the paper, make his
breakfast read the paper, and then prepare her breakfast and her brown bag lunch for school. By
this, it was around 6:15 and he`d get me up and feed me while going over the last vestiges of
homework or test preparation for that day. At 7:10 sharp they would roll out and meet their
respective days. Then, in the evening the dad would roll back a bit early, took supper then
thereafter, he would do dishes and laundry.
However, after a while Moses started to change, professionally, it was ethical for Moses to
behave more official. He is depicted as a man who grew rather stiff and formal. He would greet
everyone in the same way: with a smile and a handshake; even to his daughter Miriam. Moses
Levi was not a hugger. She remembers once when he took her to An Orioles game and she
caught a foul ball. She was so ecstatic that she wanted to hug everyone in sight. But when she
hugged her father, he did not hug her back. It was always hurting when she saw her father that
cold. But she always attributed it to something that was connected to his new life after the death
of his wife.

Nevertheless, I don`t conquer with this argument. Yes, being a daughter or a child one is
ethically supposed to be showered with love and care from parents. However, on the other hand,
Moses is depicted as a caring father from the journal that he wrote before his death. Miriam the
daughter of Moses Levi, sees as if the father had changed a lot and has become very cold. He no
longer showed her the love and care she used to receive when she was young. She attests that the
father did not hug her back. She missed her mother a lot she even fantasied how life would have
been with mummy around. This is illustrated by her saying that sometimes she dreamed of her
still being alive. She wonders what life would have been like with a mother to see into her
teenage years. Sometimes she created a vision of mummy talking to her after school life, science,
and boys. She explains that these are the things a girl like to discuss with the mother. They could
go to a coffee shop and nurse a cappuccino while they discussed the good, the true and the
However, she attests that she can talk to the father but there is something special about having a
mummy. In my opinion how Miriam sees he father is not true. In the journal of Moses Levi, he
wrote how concerned he was to his daughter, this is seen for example on 21st September 1997.
Moses notices that there was something wrong with the daughter, he thought perhaps the reason
why his daughter is stressed out is that she is trying to please him. They say that it is natural for
daughters to want to please their fathers; especially in cases in which the mother is dead. Moses
even started going back in his mind to see whether he has really told Miriam how proud he was
of her? Are words enough? There is a Common Action event in November near the Twin Cities.
He could visit Miriam and let her know that she need do nothing to win his love. He even
confesses that she has it without asking.

Moses is depicted as a caring father when he couldn`t make to do November but he did visit her
last weekend. He doesn`t know if it`s global warming or not, but he remembers Pembroke
winters as much colder and with more snow than he saw. Moses was concerned about what
Miriam is taking some Core distribution requirements this term and only one science course. She
should finish the macro sequence this year and move into the micro-sequence. They had a
spaghetti supper at a little bistro in town. He told her that he had taken her that he had taken her
mother to this same place. To me, Moses was very concerned with the affairs on her daughter as
depicted in the journals. When the third term was off again. Miriam was sure she will never get
into medical school at all. But on the other hand, Moses stood by her and comforted her.
Nobody said being a good father was easy. No matter what age your child is or how many
children you have, you have to know that a father's work is never done....
