A student solved this problem and said the answer was 3 feet. 

 

Gina had two pieces of ribbon. One was  foot long and the other was  foot long. What was the total length of both pieces of ribbon combined? 

 

Is the student's answer reasonable?

Hi !

one ribbon = 5/8 foot

one ribbon = 1/4 foot

Total = 5/8 + 1/4

         = (5+2)/8

         = 7/8 foot

So its not 3 feet.
