Ergonomic Assessment & Recommendations: Travel Agent
Introduction
The occupation, work done and its purpose
Travel agent is an interesting occupation as it entails knowing a lot of information not only about
destinations but also about other service providers. In this line of work one has a large list of
people they know. Travel agents concern themselves with helping travelers with information
about various destinations. Also, they help in making travel arrangements by ensuring that
travelers have transportation means, lodging and can go to places that suit their tastes and
preferences. A travel agent can specialize in offering a specific kind of clientele their services.
Thereby, a travel agent can deal with business people, people looking for leisure or they may
decide to concentrate their services in just one location such as offering African Safaris or tours
in Europe. By offering consultation services and planning travel packages that suit different
needs travel agents make travelling less complicated for their clients who may find making all
the plans necessary a complicated process (Careers, Services & Agent, 2018).
The typical travel agent description
Travel agents can be both male and female but statistical data reveal that more females work as
travel agents compared to their male counterparts. Besides, older adults of an average age of
50years are more likely to work as travel agents rather than younger people. There are more
White travel agents compared to other races and ethnicities. Asians and African-Americans
follow respectively. Most travel agents took a course in either business or natural resources and
conservation. There is no strict height requirement in this field (Travel agents, 2018).

Description of the specific workstation, furniture, equipment, tools and materials used to
complete each element/task and explanations on physical interaction the worker has with the
furniture, equipment, tools, and materials.
The workplace is a cubicle that has a desk that has drawers and a chair. On top there are pens and
papers that are used to jolt down information that may need to be fed into the system later or that
requires clarification. A travel agent writes a lot of things down as there is a lot of information
and data that passes around. There is a computer and a phone. The phone is important when
talking to clients that are making enquiries and those that are purchasing a package. It is also
useful in internal communication as it is necessary when seeking for clarification from other staff
or the supervisor. The computer is useful in making online reservations and for researching on
new destinations as well as for keeping with the stakeholders that form the online community.
The chair allows one to lean in as they may need to stretch their back as travel agents are in their
cubicles most of their working hours. The drawers allow the travel agent to store away
unnecessary papers that are not current in use.

Source of the information about the elements; Describing the research on the Internet with
details about the websites you used.
I obtained the information from the internet. The site I used offered a lot of information on the
travel agent industry. It even had statistical data. When doing the research I looked for
demographics on travel agents as well as what travel agents do. The details can be found on the
site https://datausa.io/profile/soc/413041/
