Question One
Groundwater well is recognized as an excavation or in other words a structure that is
created in the ground by drilling as the means to access water in underground aquifers. Water is
then drawn using a pump and a pipe which is then distributed for various uses at home (Van
Lanen, & Peters, 2000). It is worth noting that because of the occurrence of a wide range of
geological conditions, there is a variety of drilling methods. This is to mean that there are
specific drilling methods dominant in certain regions because they are effective and also provide
cost benefits. The various drilling methods include air and mud rotary drilling, downhole
hammer drilling, casing advancement drilling methods as well as bucket auger drilling.
Question Two
In drilling, casing refers to a large diameter pipe that is assembled and then inserted into a
recently drilled section of a borehole. It is proper to remember that the small space that occurs
between the casing and the untreated sides of the well is filled with cement as the means to
permanently set the casing in place. Casing is used as it carries out various functions. It offers
protection and supports the wellstream (Warren, Houtchens, & Madell, 2005). It is also worth
noting that in addition to offering stabilization as well as keeping the sides of the well from
caving in on themselves, casing helps in protecting the wellstream from outside contaminants,
and also any freshwa...
