The case study ‘Deep Throat, and His Motive’ is the case that intrigues me the most. The
case which discusses the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of American President
Nixon identifies several issues that journalists are faced with when dealing with anonymous
sources. The case study identifies that more attention needs to be put into a sources motive as the
sources motive may not be one that is of integrity. The case study explains the details of how the
FBI played a major role, with a hidden agenda against President Nixon, that ultimately caused
the president to resign (Brown, n.d.). In protecting the source Mark Felt, who was a high ranking
official at the FBI at the time, the case argues that Mark Felt’s decision to speak on Nixon
actions of stealing the Democratic’s party files and bugging their offices was a form of payback
to the president. Mark Felt had been overlooked by President Nixon for nomination as the FBI
