Which part of the description of a compound or element refers to its physical properties and which to its chemical properties?

(a) Calcium carbonate is a white solid with a density of 2.71 g/cm^3.It reacts readily with an acid to produce gaseous carbon dioxide.

(b) Gray, powered zinc metal reacts wit purple iodine to give a white compound.

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

a) the color(white), physical state (solid) and density of the compound calcium carbonate are its physical properties.

Its reactivity with an acid is its chemical property.

b) the amorphous nature, and grey color of zinc metal are its physical properties.

Its reactivity with iodine is a chemical property.

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.

A piece of turquoise is a green solid; it has a density of 2.65 g/cm^3 and a mass of 2.5g.

(a) Which of these observations are qualitative and which are quantitative?

(b) Which of the observations are extensive and which are intensive?

(c) What is the volume of the piece of turquoise?

Please help me with the question provided from the above.

It is a separate question so please post separately. Can u?

Jun 7th, 2015

1. Qualitative properties- green color, solid state

Quantitative: mass and density values

2. Extensive- mass only as this observation will change when more or less amount of mass is present.

Intensive- density, color and state as these three are indepen dent of the mass

3. Volume = mass/density = 2.5g/(2.65 g/cm^3)= 0.943 cm^3
