Write answers in point slope form and in general form

Passing through (-3, 5) and parallel to the line whose equation is 3x-4y-5=0

Jun 7th, 2015

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

3x-4y-5=0

4y=3x-5

y=(3/4)x-5/4

Two non vertical lines are parallel if and only if their slopes are equal

so m=3/4

Point-Slope form of a line:

An equation of a line through a point (x1 , y1) with slope m is given by

y - y1 = m(x - x1)

we have

y-5=(3/4)*(x-(-3))

y-5=(3/4)*(x+3)

in general form y = mx + b

y-5=(3/4)x+9/4

y=(3/4)x+9/4+5

y=(3/4)x+29/4

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.

in general form they want it to be Ax+By+C=0

Jun 7th, 2015

sorry

in general form Ax+By+C=0

y-5=(3/4)*(x+3)

y-5=(3/4)x+9/4

y=(3/4)x+29/4

4y=3x+29

3x-4y+29=0
