Communication is an important component of the negotiation process and there are various elements that can cause a barrier in the process such as facts, opinions, feelings, perceptions, experiences, and inconsistent non-verbal cues (Lewicki, Saunders, & Barry, 2006). When at a "negotiation table" the receiver of the message is not only listening to the words being spoken, but also they are looking at the non-verbal cues the sender is sending. Eye contact, facial expressions, and body positioning are all non-verbal cues one can do to either confirm or create question about the verbal message being sent.
please share with the class an incident where the spoken language did not match the non-verbal cues given causing a hindrance in a message being sent during a negotiation. Please include the outcome of the incident, and note if it is an actual outcome or a potential outcome.
