2 of the top-grossing concert tours were by a jazz band and a rock band. Together the two tours visited 179 cities. The jazz band visited 95 cities more than the rock band.  How many cities did each group visit?

So, the number of cities visited by the jazz band = x + 95


Total number of cities visited = 179

x + (x + 95) = 179

x + x + 95 = 179

2x + 95 = 179

2x = 84

x = 84/2

x = 42


So, number of cities visited by the rock band = x = 42

Number of cities visited by the jazz band = x + 95 = 42 + 95 = 137
