Question Description

A car moving at 10.0 m/s encounters a bump that has a circular cross-section with a radius of 30.0 m. What is the normal force exerted by the seat of the car on a 60.0-kg passenger when the car is at the top of the bump?

The forces acting on the car at the highest point of the bump are its weight downward and normal force up. There has to be a net force downward force to keep the car moving over the bump. 

mass = 60 kg 
speed = 10 m/s 
force by the seat = Fseat 

mv^2/R = N - mg 
N = m(g + v^2/R) = (60)(9.8 + (10)^2/30) 

 Answer=788 N
