Time taken by Rob to ovetake = Distance/ Relative speed
so 11 = 8.8/(x-y)

When they walk to each their relative speed willl be x +y
Time Take to meet = Distance/ Relative speed
so 1 = 8.8/(x+y)
x + y = 8.8...................................equation 1
Now lets solve the simultaneous equation:
11x - 11y = 8.8
11( x + y = 8.8) = 11x+11y = 96.8
11x -11y = 8.8
11x+11y = 96.8
22x = 105.6
x = 4.8
y = 8.8 -4.8
y = 4
So Rob speed is 4.8 mph while the speed of Jen is 4 mph.
