James Turrell’s use of atmospheric light in his artwork
The use of atmospheric light in James Turrell’s artwork shows uniqueness, whereby, light
is given another meaning rather than just a tool which enables vision. During his work, James
Turrell identifies light as something which can be looked at itself and goes ahead to create many
sculptures and sceneries which attract visitors. Following his artwork, a high level of creativity
and innovation can be seen especially in his work of transforming the “Roden Crater” into a
monument. Regarding the transformation of this crater into a monument, it is also evident that
persistence, patience, and passion drives the artist through his journey as it can be identified that
he started the project back in the year 1972.
Having considered himself as a space work artist rather than an ordinary earthwork artist,
James Turrell creates extraordinary pieces of art such as the incorporation of rooms for sunrise,
