Benzene, C6H6, reacts with oxygen, O2, to form CO2 and H2O. How much O2 is required for the complete combustion of 1.0 mol C6H6?

2C6H6 + 15O2 ---> 12CO2 + 6H2O

from the balanced equation, the ratio between any 2 substances can be determined by taking the coefficients in front of each. 

for example, the ratio between Oxygen and propane is 15 : 2, which means there are  15 moles of O2 required to completely react with 2 mole of C6H6.

if 2 moles of C6H6 can be combusted using 15 moles of O2,then 1 mole of C6H6 will combusted using 7.5 moles of O2

the no. of oxygen is not well on both sides...you have 30 on the left side then 12+3=15 on the right
