By understanding human development, I will be better equipped to assist my patients. I will be able to see not only where they are in their physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development, but also where a child their age should be.
It is critical to understand the human development. If not, you would not be able to understand or feel who your patient is. If you have a patient with artheritis and don't understand what causes it or how it makes that person feel, you could show no empathy towards that patient. Showing empathy towards a patient and letting them know you understand will ensure them that they can feel comfortable around you. Physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development are all apart of understanding the human body. Everybody develops differently and to understand each individual as they are, will enhance your experience as a nurse, teacher, or doctor.
