a. Background Information
Social inequality is a common phenomenon in the society. Social inequality is a hurting issue
that entails uneven distribute of resources that put life patterns of other people in limbo. Social
inequality refers to unequal treatment of people in society based on religion, kinship, ethnicity,
age, sexual orientation, race and class among other factors. Social inequality tend to promote
infringement of the fundamental and legitimate rights of people such as access to healthcare and
education, political representation, participation and granting people equal chance to showcase
their unique talents and prowess in life. This paper seeks to examine social inequality as
manifested by racial and ethnic disparity in state prisons.
Racial and Ethnic Disparity in State Prisons
Numerous scholarly articles have justified the fact that indeed social inequality is a
reality in state prisons in the United States. According to Nellis (2016, 01), African Americans
are vulnerable to incarceration in state prisons as compared to their white counterparts. Worrying
statistics do indicate that there are major factors that contribute to increased cases of
incarceration in state prisons that do have devastating effects to African American and the
Hispanics....
