Introduction
A life review summary identifies the individual's significant life changes and the
underlying causative factors behind the various life decisions and their impact in life from the
perspective of the individual. Interviewing older individuals can bring up interesting issues
about her life, from her point of view. In this article, I will highlight the life review summary
after an interview, and I will also explain the interesting details about her life as depicted
from her point of view. I conducted a life review interview on my widowed 70-year-old
grandmother Mrs. Mary Lynn Goodson, who is wife to the late Mr. Bob Goodson. Mary
Lynn lives in a retirement community home for the elderly in our local town to be closer to
her children after the passing of her husband over two years ago. She cherishes being close to
her family and has a fascinating life journey as I will highlight in this life review summary
article.
1. Main Themes and Aspects that Recurred
Characteristics and relationships of her upbringing
Mary Lynn was brought up in the small town of Beaufort in South Carolina in the 60s,
and she fondly remembers her close relationship to her father while she was growing up. Her
father Tom Bobley was in the US Navy, and he would not be at home for much of the time.
She also fondly reminisces moments of childhood games with her two brothers Jim and Mike
who were older than her. Mary's upbringing was humble as her mother was a housewife.
Being a Christian, she grew up while attending church, the local school, and even extended
family events during Thanksgiving, Halloween and the Christmas seasons. It is during these
events in her life where she was able to meet relatives and friends. Notably, she remembers
the thanksgiving days when her father would be around and take her for road trips and fishing
trips and outings to get ice cream in the beautiful summer years when she was twelve years
old.

Moreover, she fondly remembers, the days she would spend with her family in her father's
ranch after he had come home from the navy. She also fondly remembers the lessons her
mother taught her while she was growing up like cooking all types of family recipes, cleaning
the house, and she remembers her mother's lectures on life especially on the importance of
honesty and humility. She recollects that her mother taught her the principles of life and that
she made sure that she went to church every Sunday since her mother was very religious and
would even have church meetings at her home after Sunday services with fellow women
church members. These are the most memorable aspects of her upbringing.
2. Mary’s expectations and how she expected to feel and behave
