Air quality issues at airports
Most of the main airports are situated in large urban areas where air pollution already
exceeds health-based standards. Even though airports have little contribution when it comes to
overall air quality issues in the metropolitan regions, it is the main source of air quality concerns
for the neighboring community (Schlenker & Walker, 2015). Therefore, it is the responsibly of
the authority to manage emissions and pollutants that come from the facility. As time goes by
most airports grows and expands by constructing new buildings and acquiring new facilities.
These changes are likely to lead to an increase in the level of emissions due to more aircraft,
passenger vehicles, ground support equipment, and many construction activities that come with
the expansion of airports (National Academic of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2018).
The main source of bad air quality at the airports is the passenger vehicles, cargo tractors, cubs
and aircraft. These vehicles and airplanes consume fuel and due to combustion releases gases
and fumes which pollutes the air.
