USE OF FORENSIC SCIENCE IN SOLVING A COLD CASE

The circumstance of the case, involving the disappearance of Pamela Jackson and Cheryl
Miller in the year 1971, involved charging David Lykken of rape and murder for the two missing
girls. However, after critical investigation and a realisation that the tapes were serving as
evidence for Lykken committing the offence, the case was finally settled. Investigators finally
agreed jointly that the two girls died when the vehicle they were riding in, 1960 Studebaker Lark
by mistake went off the gravel road and crashed into a local creek. One of the girl's purses, which
was identified later to be Miller's, was found and inside the purse was her driving license,
photographs and some notes from her classmates. The discovery of the car the two girls were
riding in was discovered after many years of incidence occurrence when the low waters in the
creek into which they crashed in exposed the rusted wreck.
The use of forensic science helped in solving the case. Investigators looked for clues in
