By what percent will a fraction change if its numerator is decreased by 20% and its denominator is decreased by 60%?

let the fraction be x/y

x is decrease by 20 %  

New numerator is (1-20/100) times x = (1-0.2)x = 0.8 x

y is decreased by 60%

New denominator is (1-60/100) times y = (1-0.6)y = 0.4y

New fraction is 0.8x/0.4y =(0.8/0.4)  (x/y) = 2(x/y)

Percentage change in fraction = (change / original ) X100

                               change  in fraction           = 2(x/y)-(x/y)  = x/y

        original fraction = x/y

percentage change = (x/y)  / (x/y)  times 100 = 1 X 100 = 100% 

Fraction increases by 100%
