A student scores 72 out of 100 on a test. If the maximum score on the next  test is also 100 points , what score does the student need to maintain at least an average of 78?

Jun 13th, 2015

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

His first score = 72

If his average >= 78, then his total score in two tests must be > = 2*78 =156

Since his first score is 72, he must score at least 156-72 = 84

His score in the next test >= 84

I have one one question. Parking in a studenting lot costs $3 for the first hour half and $1.50 for each hour thereafter. A partial hour is charged the same as a full hour. What is the longest time a student can park for in this lot for $9?

Jun 13th, 2015

First hour  cost = $3.

For every hour or part thereof , parking cost = $1.5

If x is the additional number of hours , total cost= 3+1.5x<=9

1.5x<=6

x<=4

Longest time = 1+4 = 5 hours. It should not exceed 5 hours.

I hope that you are satisfied with this answer.

Jun 13th, 2015

Sorry I meant to put first half hour not hour half for $3

Jun 13th, 2015

So wouldn't the answer be 4.5 ?

Jun 13th, 2015

First half hour cost = $3

I assume $ 1.5 remain the same.

Let x be the additional hours.

3+1.5x <=9

1.5x<=6

x<=4

Longest time = 4.5 hours or 4 1/2 hours.
