Introduction
The term fake news has been in use since the 2016 presidential elections. The true
definition of fake news should, therefore, have been simple, any information that has stories that
can be demonstrated to be false is fake news. Unfortunately, that is not always the case in American
politics. The American politicians term any information that is not congruent with their political
views as fake news. This has, therefore, made the general public over the years, since the inception
of this term “fake news” to be polarized because they cannot agree on the reports from news
sources nor on the facts. Fake news, or reports dismissing real facts as fake news as therefore had
a big effect in the politics of the nation. This research will, therefore, look to analyze the origin,
progress and impact of fake news in the local and state politics.

Origin of Fake News
In the case of US politics, the difference between what is demonstrably true and what is
fake has been distorted in a paradigm shift that no one has noticed over a long period of time. This
unnoticed line is the difference between what is false and what is true, what the facts are and what
the rumors are, and it started on the peripheries of both ends of the different political camps and
had spread fast with the help of the media, politicians, conservatives and big political figures. A
transition that is quick due to the desire to disregard the truth so as to defend an indefensible act to
the general public.
Fake news started as a political strategy to win elections and remain in power, before
gradually changing into a grotesque pox on the center of American politics and the American
