Scandal in the 20th century
Scandals tend to be the order of the day especially in politics. Politics as it is many by
many, it is a dirty game and it can be surrounded by numerous scandals which might have
adverse effects in the long run. Politics therefore, contributes to the major political scandals in
life because of different perks associated with it such as fame, money power and honor.
However, some of the scandals may be exaggerated and some may be false but all in all, these
scandals remain.
Majority of the scandals are related with extramarital affairs, inappropriate utilization of
taxes, improper use of public funds, moral bankruptcy, misplaced trust and loyalty, obsession as
well as lapses of proper judgment,. One of the great scandals in the second half of the 20th
century is the Watergate scandal which took place in the in early 1970s. It is the gold standard of
the political scandals in the United States as it forced Richard M. Nixon to resign. He was the
first U.S president and so far, the only president who resigned from office due to a scandal.
