People find themselves in different groups depending on the issues confronting them at
the moment and the age groups they belong to. There are different types of social groups and
among them includes; psychoeducational groups, psychotherapy groups, and counseling groups.
Psychoeducational groups give education to persons who are mentally ill on how to cope with
their condition (Brown, 2018). The education is given to the patient or their family members or
both. Psychoeducation is not necessarily a form of treatment, but it equips the patient and the
family members on how to cope with the situation optimally, how to empower the patient and
other aspects like how to improve their communication skills.
Counseling groups give advice and nuggets of wisdom to a group of people who are
confronted with a specific issue. Most of the time, it does not involve mental health or any other
form of sickness. It involves social life issues like relationships, drugs, and drugs abuse or
careers. Counseling is meant to help and guide the participants of a group to make decisions that
would be best for their lives or to cope with bad habits that could end up ruining their lives
