Effective leadership is a vital component in the provision of quality care. Akin to
organizations, individuals require to set their vision to map out their needs and desires and
develop a plan towards the achievement of the vision. Further, a personal vision is essential in
leadership since it translates into the organizational success as one works to achieve their vision.
My nursing vision is to offer the best level of care to patients with a scrupulous attention to
quality while dedicating efforts to enhance health literacy among patients. This study explores a
personal strategic plan, the significance of leadership, leadership theories and personal leadership
philosophy.
Personal Strategic Plan and its Significance
A personal strategic plan is a guide that helps individuals track their career-related goals.
Just as a strategic plan steers an organization towards their organizational goals, a personal
strategic plan guides an individual in their professional and personal life. Personal strategic
planning entails the identification of purpose and mission and then implementing the plan to
attain the set objectives similar to organizational strategic planning (Roussel et al., 2006).
Actually, it is a self-leadership strategy. Leadership involves improving others through your
presence and ensuring that the impact lasts in your absence. Therefore, just like leadership,
developing a personal strategic plan is an ongoing exercise of self-leadership since you cannot
lead others without first leading yourself.
The plan acts as an anchor to connect a person to their objectives in case of changes and
new opportunities. The process is transformative and requires patience since some changes occur
quickly while others take a longer period (Vernon, 2018). A strategic plan gives an individual the

opportunity to look at their life, criticize the many aspects, learn where to grow and change to

requires accuracy and assiduity.
