The American Civil War was fought in the United States of America for four years
between the years 1861 and 1865. The main reason behind the breakout of the war was matters
surrounding the enslavement of the black people in the US at that time. The civil records the
highest number of deaths ever experienced in a war in America history and the death toll is said
to be more than the total number of deaths of American soldiers in all their wars combined1.
The war was between the North States which were loyal to the US and recognized laws
that were advocating for the rights of the black people. However, seven slave holding states in
the south wanted to secede because they did not want to recognize the rights of the blacks. Their
number grew with time to eleven. These states wanted the enslavement of the black people to
continue and were big participants in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.

from North Africa through the Atlantic to be sold as slaves in South America, North America

merchants by their own chiefs who would in return be given wealth. Some would however be
acquired by village raids conducted by the whites and would abduct Africans to be sold as slaves
depending on their physical attributes2. They would however, conduct these raids only on the
coast as they were afraid of going inland because of the heightened resistance by African
communities and they were also afraid of diseases like malaria and chicken pox which were very
brutal at the time.
