BCJ 2201 Unit VI discussion board question

Provide your position on juvenile waivers. Should these be used to try juveniles in adult courts? Why, or why not? If yes, under what circumstances? Can you think of a juvenile who was waived, but should not have been? Can you think of a juvenile who should have been waived? Also, should all states follow the same guidelines for waivers? Why, or why not?

BCJ 2501 UNIT IV I HAVE TO COMMENT ON MY CLASSMATES DISCUSSION BOARD QUESTION AND THIS IS WHAT THEY WROTE :

One way gender has significantly organized elements of social life is around the family structure and the role of the father/husband. He is typically portrayed as the provider and hence a successful male is one who provides for his wife/offspring. A failure as a male is one who does not provide. This contributes to the likelihood of crime in two ways. A.) a male unable to use legal means to provide would see illegal means as a viable alternative. B.) A male may work too much to provide the type of life necessary to legally succeed and pay his fair share and hence be absent from the home and not providing an authority figure to keep unruly offspring inline.

Another way gender significantly organizes elements of social life is gender equality in the workplace. Treating women as equals would mean they would have to jump into situations many millenia after established roles and boundaries have been set socially. It is upheaval on a significant level. Women ask to be treated equally to men but require special laws to protect them from being treated equally. This upheaval and change in law has contributed to the likelihood of crime in the workplace such as harassment, sexual harassment, FMLA violations and more. It has even led to contradictory laws. As a peace officer in Texas I am unable to have my peace breached by a citizen on the street, however, a coworker who would say the same things to me may be fired, sued and all sorts of other issues. While not an arrestable offense it does appear to be a double standard.

UNIT VI DISCUSSION BOARD QUESTION

Identity theft has become a serious and growing problem in the United States. Why do you think it is? How do you feel we can prevent it? Feel free to share your personal experience with this, if you have any. If you have personal experience, discuss how it affected you and if anything has changed for you since the theft.

BCJ 2201 Unit VI Discussion Board Question
Juvenile waivers are when a judge in a juvenile court moves a case to an adult court from
a juvenile. This is done in order to deny the juvenile any protection he or she would have gotten
from the juvenile jurisdiction. In my opinion, waivers are very necessary and they should be used
to try the juvenile in an adult court. This is because some of the crimes that the juvenile commit is
so serious and the court should not risk the person going back to the society where they can cause
more harm. Some of the juveniles are repeat offenders and the only to learn is if they are taken to
the adult court and treated like an adult (Vandervort, 2001). An example of a juvenile who was
waived and should not have been waived can be seen in the case of Graham v. Florida. Graham
was sentenced to a lifetime in jail with no parole and been a minor this was wrong. All the states
should follow the same guidelines when it comes to waivers. This is because it will bring about
uniformity.
