Description

Your fourth paper assignment will be to construct an annotated bibliography. Please refer to the video for Module 8 for information on what an annotated bibliography is, as well as how to successfully construct an annotated bibliography. You can also download an example of an annotated bibliography here: Annotated bibliography example. The research article that was used to create the example of an annotated bibliography can be downloaded here: Annotated bibliography article.

You will use the topic of domestic violence for the construction of your annotated bibliography. Recall from the video that an annotated bibliography for a research article is a one paragraph to one page summary in your own words of the content of an article. An annotated bibliography for a research article is not a cutting and pasting of what the author(s) of the article said; rather, it is your own description of what the author(s) of the article said.

You will need to use exactly five (5) different peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles on domestic violence to form your annotated bibliography. Your peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles must have been published within the last 15 years. Your scholarly journal articles must come from peer-reviewed journals. Newspapers, magazines, books, textbooks, and government documents will not be allowed for this assignment. Instead, you must use articles that have been published in a peer-reviewed scholarly journal. If you have questions on what constitutes a peer-reviewed scholarly journal, please refer to this resource: What are Scholarly and Peer-Reviewed Articles? (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. Please know that peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles can be found in the Academic Search Complete database at the Troy University Library website: https://trojan.troy.edu/library/databases.html (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

Martinez‐Torteya, C., Anne Bogat, G., Von Eye, A., & Levendosky, A. A. (2009). Resilience
among children exposed to domestic violence: The role of risk and protective factors.
Child development, 80(2), 562-577.
The article investigates the occurrence and nature of domestic violence mainly in urban
areas. One of the points raised by the authors is that domestic violence tends to increase in
distant relationships. The main victims of domestic violence are children as noted in most of the
cases. The article also compares the occurrence of domestic violence with the increasing costs of
living. The authors note that struggling families have a higher likelihood to have domestic
violence than the wealthy ones. The issue is related to how the parents approach their day to day
challenges mainly the needs of their children. The authors note that while the occurrence of
domestic violence tends to rise among young couples, the solution lies within the ability to
address the challenges internally (Martinez‐Torteya et al., 2009). The article sums up that
domestic violence has a major effect on the wellbeing of the children mainly psychological
health. It is the role of the parents to restrict their emotions and not engage in fights in front of
their children. The authors also point out that the rise in domestic violence signifies a societal
problem that tends to erode the stability and peace among families. Studies show that the surge
in domestic violence among new couples is the sole reason for the loss of significance in,
marriage, particularly for women. The article gives an account of young women who testified of
fear to engage in marriage. The reason for the fear is due to trauma or memories of domestic
violence in their family or between their parents (Martinez‐Torteya et al., 2009). The article thus
confirms that the effects of domestic violence may be passed on to the children where they end
up fearing to engage or settle for marriage. Parents should, therefore, b...
