Question 6. How and why have you struggled with change? How can you overcome
resistance to change in yourself and others in order to bring about and maintain positive
change?
Change can be defined as a deviation from the norm that is of lasting characteristics.
Change is constant in the world, in that, due to different exposures and experiences people are
forced to adapt to new technologies and strategies. In the rapidly evolving world, new techniques
and trends usually open up to new opportunities, although unknown possibilities that come with
the changes may be frightening, surviving in the evolving environment requires adapting to
learning to embrace the changes quickly rather than resisting it.
As a manager and once a subordinate staff, I have struggled with the change in various
occasion. As human we are naturally drawn to consistency, we fell safer with consistent patterns.
Any change means that a particular risk is involved, explaining the tendency of people focusing
on avoidance of losses even at the cost of gaining something in the short run or future. Change
too many people may be a sign of impending danger, especially if in the past it was associated
with bad things, traumatic or chaos resulting in people been scared of change. However, it also
brings happiness, liberation but often it is hard to see this, especially when the outcomes are
uncertain or unclear. The biggest challenge with change is that people are always concerned if
they have enough resources, skills, and experiences to cope with change.
