Curiosity is the desire to know and according to Metaphysics, Aristotle states that curiosity is
what led to the first philosophers to philosophy. It is because an ignorant man this of his
ignorance and tries to get away from that. Socrates states that “for wonder is the feeling of a
philosopher, and philosophy begins in wonder. Being curious makes a person want to understand
the values, reason, mind, and other rational arguments. Therefore, curiosity is what makes a
person want to know more thus making the right decisions in life which for philosophers, this is
the first step in being a philosopher.
The role of curiosity in philosophy
Without curiosity, philosophers could not understand matters which surround human beings like
the mind, values, existence, and knowledge. For the Greeks, curiosity was not articulated well in
their system of thinking but with time, they started to understand its role in shaping philosophy.
Aristotle believed that all human beings have a natural desire for knowledge which is derived
from being curious. These individuals are derived by the desire or thirst for knowledge and thus
