American artwork has become a platform for expressionism especially in regards to art
and identity. Different artists have been seen to depict cultural orientation and struggles as well
as conflicts in art. In so doing they seek to establish identity in the form of race, gender and
ethnicity as well as sexuality. It is essential to understand that conflict has played a part in the
need for people establishing identity through art. Artists have taken the platform to visually
express themselves, their cultures, their struggles and their traditions to the world. The American
community is a diverse group of people has seen identity in artwork the most which have
contributed to diversity in art through the richness of different cultures. Using different pieces of
art depicting the same occasion, we can establish how different artists have utilized their skills,
different materials as well as style to establish identity and race in the American culture.
