The digital media tend to be forms of electronic communication, which the users create
online communications with the intention of sharing or spreading information and other
contents. Digital media has had a huge impact or effect on the marketing procedures in the
United States and even around the globe. Some of the digital media that have played a huge
role in marketing include, Facebook and Twitter. Most of the companies in the United States
have created the digital marketing departments that are composed of social media specialists
and the content developers. As the digital media platform continues to advance, social media
marketing specialists are mandated with the responsibility of keeping track of the upcoming
social media platforms. The rate of digital news consumption has been on the increase
currently, and a huge percentage of the population below thirty years has been noted to
receive news through cell phones. Since 2010 the number of people viewing news in the
social media networks was noted to increase from 9% to approximately 19% (Mangold &
Faulds 2009). Digital media has contributed to the general assumption of the printed media
industry which will become extinct soon.
The world’s demographics and the enhanced literacy level have attributed to the
extinction of the printed media by greater extent. In the United States, the newsprint media is
expected to become extinct by 2020. While the rest of the world is expected to follow soon
with the final countries retiring from the printed news by 2014 (Mangold & Fauld 2009), the
televisions remain a key source of news and marketing for the United States and global

population. Eventually, with approximately 55% of the population watching news and
marketing programs on a daily basis (Kietzmann et al. 2011). The digital media has
transformed how companies market and advertise their products in various ways that include;
it has killed the traditional advertising method. The traditional advertising methods have
been eliminated in the market by the new digital media. For example, the radio and television
marketing services have reduced a lot due to the online streaming services that are available.
People do not have the time watch televisions instead they prefer to watch online content.
Since the online market is highly targeted, one pays only to access or reach the pope who has
the interest in what you intend to advertise.
