Introduction
The confidence interval is a situation where the range of values is believed to contain a
true mean from the unknown population parameter. The confidence interval is used to solve the
issue associated with the point estimate whereby the uncertainty of the estimate may not be
easily solved, for instance, the deviation of the sample means from the population mean may not
be easily calculated. The confidence interval is based on the interval estimate associated with a
certain confidence level that quantifies the level of confidence that the parameter lies in the
interval. The range of values in the confidence interval constitute the potential values of the
unknown population parameter. This means, within a certain interval there is confidence that the
true value lies within it (Morey, 2008). For example, estimating the number of Americans who
love soccer, a sampling process may be carried out because it is impossible to meet all the US
citizens and ask them. After the sampling process is complete, the confidence interval is
computed based on the confidence level, whereby we may say we are 95% confidence that the
US citizens that love soccer are between 56% and 63%. This will give us an interval estimate
which is 95% correct and 5% wrong and unlike the point estimate that doesn’t give the range
(Morey, 2008). The confidence interval is normally affected by the size of the sampl...
