Reader Responses on ‘The Sound and the Fury’
Introduction
The main issue that the book "The Sound and the Fury" focuses on is racism and
discrimination. Faulkner and Welty's work seeks to make the reader understand things such as
racism, the race's process as well as the discrimination factor on the root of race. The book "The
Sound and the Fury" is an analytical work focusing on analyzing as well as distinguishing the
multi-ethnic scope existing between the blacks and the whites. Faulkner and Welty have defined
racism as the preconception happening between different races on the bases of religion, culture,
ethnicity and even place of birth.
Criticism of the Novel
This work also focuses on showing the relationship that is there between the whites and
the blacks in the southern part of America. Either the treatment of the black people in the South
is very different from the treatment of blacks in the North. Those in the Northern part of America
are treated better than those in the southern part of America. On the other side, the whites are
well treated and have their space (Liu and Jiambo 42). In this paper, different instances of
racism and discrimination based on race will be discussed, as well as a provision of examples.
