Question description

I uploaded the assignment , answer 6 questions . analysis of the study area with attention to the key issues of urban development, prevention of illegal dumping, water runoff, air pollution and habitat connectivity.

the paper should present the argument about how the design in your study area ensures regional sustainability and resiliency

Urban Environmental Planning The objective is to take your assigned section of the Blue River and apply environmental resource inventorying to the site. I expect a well written report with graphics with authors and data sources noted. These graphics should be cited in the text of the report when you reference the data. Create maps using applicable resource inventories at the same scale for each of the overlays. The following resource categories must be included in the document, and more information about the paper is at the bottom. Locations on the Blue River Kansas city ,MO for Final Project Work in this location only , second box 1) Create Environmental Justice Overlays: data from https://www.epa.gov/environmentaljustice , map out the poverty rate for the tracts at your section in/around the Blue River. How does your detailed study area’s rate of poverty compare to the state and national levels? Pay special attention to areas of high poverty (poverty rate of 30% or more) and areas of very high poverty of 40% or more. Are there areas that are both highly concentrated 60% or more with a particular race or ethnic group as well as being an area of high poverty? Is there also a relative concentration of children or elderly residents living in the area? Write a couple of paragraphs about what being in an area of racially or ethnically concentrated poverty mean in terms of environmental opportunity, sustainability and resilience. 2) Create Water Pollution Overlays: Using Enviromapper or a Missouri state source such as Missouri DNR or Missouri GIS, create maps of the locations of permitted facilities with water pollution discharges. Are these facilities discharging to the sewer system or to the Blue River? Note where these facilities are and if there are few or none – note where the nearest facilities are outside of your area. Examine online mapping sources to see how the state categorizes surface waters. You may also use information from EPA’s WaterBug. Does the Blue River meet the fishable, swimmable standard? Write a paragraph describing the scope of water pollution in your detailed study area. Is there a water pollution problem in your area, and do you think it is caused by non-point sources such as infiltration to groundwater and urban runoff or through permitted point sources? Do point sources align with land use zoning categories? 3) Create FEMA Flood Areas Overlays: Using KC GIS and FEMA sources create an overlay showing the flood zones in your detailed study area? How many residential, industrial and commercial structures are in the flood plain? Write a few sentences about the threat of flooding your area.. 4) Compare and contrast the resource categories and how you think each resource category might influence the other. 5) Analyze what stakeholders there might be for the Blue River, and what role they could play in projects regarding the blue river. Include information about potential stakeholders and their roles. 6) Lastly, consider green infrastructure elements that improve the urban redevelopment possibilities while providing significant ecological improvements of your area. Address how the green infrastructure could be maintained and financed. Estimate the impact of their green infrastructure design on neighborhood, city and regional demographics and economics. How will your interventions improve conditions? -Maps and graphics generated from the resource categories are expected to be included in the document and well labeled. Include a list of references at the end of the document. Outside of these parameters, you have freedom in how you choose to design and organize this write up, as well as how you designate each participant’s share of the work. Your paper will be graded on how well it comprehensively describes and explains each category and scrutinized for important details of each, as well as the quality of the document itself (ie, how well it is written).
