Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon
Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey met in 2005 at the MTV teen choice awards; they began
dating three years later in 2008, got married in 2011 but later filed for divorce in December
2014. The couple has a set of twins together, Moroccan and Monroe.
An Analysis of their relationship
The couple went through all five stages of an interpersonal relationship. They went
through their acquaintance phase shortly after they met. According to Canon himself, he was
always interested in Mariah. During the award show in 2005, the two seemingly hit it off, getting
comfortable and getting to know each other. This phase of their relationship was characterized
by questions and alternate viewpoints on life, experiences (Sravanti, 2017) and so on. The main
theory that characterized this phase is the uncertainty reduction theory, where both parties
seemed determined to gain knowledge and information regarding the other. Nick Cannon
admitted accentuating his positive traits at the expense of his negative traits, translating to the
social penetration theory.
