Question Description

A Short Paper Assignment allows you to demonstrate your research skills to your instructor and to receive feedback that will benefit you as you continue your studies. With this assignment, you will learn how to do proper and adequate research and write a short paper.


You are allowed to choose your own topic, as long as it pertains to the subject of this course (1925 to Modern Times). If you have any questions on subject matter, please contact your instructor. This is your opportunity to look a little deeper at a subject that interests you.

This short paper is at least three double-spaced pages of text (Times New Roman, font size 12) and you must consult a minimum of two academically credible sources. Bibliographies and citations will be in an acceptable style format, either MLA, APA, or Chicago. The subject will be on something that is of interest to you between 1925 and the present. Let me know what you want to do.

The American South experienced an era of segregation that represented racial apartheid
and reprehension of certain races. It was basically legalized segregation that caused educational,
economic and social advantages on the whites and robbed the same of African Americans. It was
a big challenge for a person who tried to oppose segregation in this era. The harsh and unjust
laws were imposed on the African Americans. This era was marked by events of discrimination,
violence, and poverty. People were treated differently based on their race; the white Americans
were favored while African Americans were victimized. This made it difficult for African
Americans to survive or succeed because they could barely own a decent position in the society.
They suffered severe oppression as they were perceived as slaves thus they were not regarded as
part of the US. It was a tool that blocked social progression of the minority. The main reason for
these laws was to ensure that the men and women of color maintained their positions as slaves.
They were forbidden of certain acts that were clearly stated in the Jim Crow laws. This was
