Description

Some of the misconceptions regarding literature review papers are: a) It is similar to the section of a research paper which presents previously published research on a certain topic with normally 1-2 sentences on each research paper. b) It is an annotated bibliography where a short description of each resource is separately presented.

A literature review paper examines the main ideas and results in a specific field of study. It describes how work in that area has evolved and discusses the influences than made a difference.

AVIATION MANAGEMENT
Introduction
As time moves by, the aviation industry has evolved and the environment in which it
operates in as well. This, therefore, means the world in which the aviation industry operates it is
completely different than the ones that were faced by the right brothers and the nineteenth
century in general. Most of the milestones that were made in the nineteenth century and
twentieth century were in the discovery sector but in the twenty-first century it’s the fine-tuning
of the discoveries as well as learning new technologies that have been able to make the aviation
management more complex and different than previous centuries. In his analysis of the
challenges facing the aviation industry in the twenty-first century, Dempsey (2015) categorizes
the main challenges into four major categories. The main challenges that aviation management
currently is facing can be categorized into four major topics which are; environmental
challenges, safety challenges, security challenges, and financial challenges.
It is therefore important to realize that the aviation industry is very broad and as a broad
industry, it is prone not major and broad challenges that face it. The environment that the
aviation managers operate in is one that is faced with major competition, criticism, politics, bad

weather due to changes in climate, and some challenging terrains that the aviation managers have
to cover in the industry as the planes now have to cover all corners of the world.
The environment in which the aviation crew operates in is one of the most dangerous
working environments and as such, their safety is a major concern to the management of the
industry. There have been major cases in which accidents have led to the loss of life in the
industry either the crew or passengers. Dempsey (2015) further says that it is due to this that the
safety of the people is a major challenge in the management of the industry.

In the twenty-first century, security has become a major issue of concern due to terrorism,
the rise in crime levels, as a result of development in technology and lack of employment. The
management of aviation, therefore, cannot be discussed without factoring in the security of the
passengers, crew, and the planes themselves.
The financial crisis is a major concern to the management of aviation industry as well.
This has been the case especially to the companies that own the fleets of commercial airplanes.
Since most are out to make a profit in the business, they have been faced with competition from
other upcoming companies and some have had to close while other prospers in the industry. Thus
managers’ decisions are highly depended on the financial state of the industry.
Environmental Challenges
The environmental challenges in the aviation industry that Dempsey (2015) talks about in
his research include the following;
1.Competition in the business
Since in most cases airline companies are businesses owned by corporations,
governments or even individuals; they are out to make profits. And just like in any other
business, competition has skyrocketed in the twenty-first century mainly due to the rise of
technology and innovations that has given many businesses a competitive edge. The technology
and innovation have made the aviation industry to become more efficient and effective and thus
for the companies that are ready to take in the new strategies of technology have had better
business.
