Hypertension in California

High blood pressure or hypertension is one of the serious and common public health
issues that affect about one in every three American adults. According to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC), effective control of blood pressures lowers the risk of heart
disease and stroke. The CDC asserts that about 75 million people in the United States have high
blood pressure. However, hypertension awareness in the United States remains low as CDC
observes that of all the 75 million people that have the condition, only half or about 54% can
control their high blood pressure (CDC, 2015). The federal agency observes that many young
people continue to be diagnosed with high blood pressure; a situation that increases their risk of
getting heart conditions and stroke. Heart disease and stroke are cardiovascular conditions that
are leading causes of death among Americans.
